OVERVIEW

The majestic dunes of Erg Chegaga are located over 60 km away from the village of M’hamid El Ghizlane from which this 2 days/1 night tour starts. This tour requires 1h:30 minutes of drive off-road to reach Erg Chegaga. Along the way, you discover the wild authentic Sahara Desert, passing through the tamarisk trees, the desert dunes, and the sacred oasis of Oum Lâalag where you will break for a well-deserved visit. This tour around Erg Chegaga offers you a perfect opportunity to walk on the Sahara Desert dunes, admire the gorgeous view of sunset, gaze at the starry sky, enjoy the local music around the campfire, taste the delicious local cuisine meals, and sleep under the stars or in the tents. On the next day, you make your way back to M’hamid El Ghizlane.

ITINERARY

Day 1: M’hamid - Sacred Oasis - Erg Chegaga
The tour around the majestic dunes of Erg Chegaga starts from M’hamid El Ghizlane in the afternoon. After being picked up at that time, you will drive off-road around 1h: 30 minutes to reach the highest majestic dunes of Erg Chegaga. The landscapes vary from palm trees to picturesque Erg (sand dune) and reg (rocky dune) while you are driving towards Erg Chegaga. You will have a short break at the sacred oasis of Oum Lâalag, a recognized source of water for Nomads and their flocks. After that short visit, you will resume driving to arrive at Erg Chegaga. It is the magic place where you will smile from ear to ear. On the majestic dunes of Erg Chegaga, you will experience the sandboarding, feel the tranquility of the Sahara Desert, and enjoy the stunning sunset in the heart of the sahara desert surrounded by 15 km of dunes (300 m high). After seeing the stunning sunset, you will stay overnight in the Sahara desert camp in which dinner will be served and local music be played around the campfire. There, you will exchange songs and stories, gaze at the shining stars, and sleep in a comfortable Nomadic tent.
Day 2: Erg Chegaga - M’hamid.
After the stunning sunrise and super breakfast in the camp, you will drive back to M’hamid El Ghizlane.
